This is one of the rare retained houses of the upper-middle class community in Bloemfontein and belonged to architect John Edwin Harrison. Completed in 1897, this house has an asymmetrical facade, red walls with no plasters, bay windows and a classic construction of the renaissance period. The Victorian garden around the museum is also worth a visit.

Freshford House Museum Reviews & Ratings
Wonderful to see the architecture of John Edwin Harrison. The house consists of mainly Edwardian style artifacts, tastefully decorated and beautiful wooden floors! a Must visit when in Bloemfontein
I was here 9 years ago (without the tour) and again today. We were welcomed by Shani, she showed us around and explained everything in the house with much gumption and passion. Thank you Shani! We enjoyed the tour and our Bloemfontein’s heritage. We really hope curators like you and Pulane keep up the wonderful work you are doing!
I such such a lovely afternoon here. The tour guides were entertaining and well informed. They really brought the history alive. Entrance was only R5.00. The website is accurate and the museum is in beautiful condition. I really would love to see the museum expand to include a tea garden in their beautiful garden. Such a gem of a place. Congratulations on the fantastic work done to restore and maintain this place.
Amazing place to visit
A very beautifully preserved piece of Bloemfontein history. You could drive past it very easily not knowing that it’s actually a museum. The tour guide is knowledgable and very friendly!
