The only surviving gate of the city walls built by King Mausolus, Myndos gate was recently restored. The city walls that were 7 kilometres in length were a 4th century construction and served as a shield to the citadel from the outer world.

Myndos gate is a twin-towered gate. In front of the gate, are the remains of a moat in which many of Alexander the Great’s soldier’s were drowned in 334 BC.
