Cattedrale di San Pietro, located in the main piazza is simply impossible to miss. With very appealing Romanesque façade and a high portico in the front, the church showcases Bolognese architecture.

The interiors are Baroque and extraordinarily large and is made up of a nave with adjoining side chapels. There are two red marble holy water containers, decorated with lions, which belonged to the original Romanesque-Gothic basilica. Art work like Annunciation (Carracci), Romanesque Crucifixion and sculptures displaying lament over the dead christ by Lombardi.

You structure has a bell tower which houses ‘the granddaddy’- the largest bell weighing 3300 kilos. To ring all 4 bells it requires about 23 bell ringers! A very rare sight. A quick stroll around the church will give you a good glimpse of Bologna and a sneak peek into other attractions of the city.
