Bordeaux’s most beautiful square stands as it did in the 18th century, surrounded by a lovely collection of symmetrical palace-like facades. The name translates into the “place of the wallet” – fitting, seeing that most of the buildings are economic in nature, and include the Chambers of Commerce. Pretty enough in the day, it’s simply enchanting by night, the buildings all lit up in a golden glow, a photographers’ favourite. You’ll also find the Miroir des Quais here, the largest water mirror in the world at 3540 metres, a favourite with kids, adults and of course, anyone with a camera. There uses to be a statue of Louis XV at this spot once (he ordered the place to be built) but the French Revolution saw that destroyed. You’ll find the Musee de Douanes at the south pavilion; it’s a cute narration of the city’s history with a focus on naval influence. Also, visit the popular attractions in the city by following Bordeaux itinerary 1 day.
