It is the only live music venue in Bournemouth, Dorset and has been listedamong the Grade-II buildings of England. After it was opened in 1895, the first name that was given to this venue was Boscombe Grand Theatre. By 1902, it was turned into a music hall and another name was given called Boscombe Hippodrome. By the time 60’s age started, this music venue became a popular platform where famous brands like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Status Quo, Thin Lizzy and Hawkwind performed.
However, in 1982, the authorities of the academy received a million pound donation for renovating the venue which ultimately turned it into the Academy Nightclub. People say that it used to be the only nightclub which first owned the water-cooled lasers and the first Karaoke bar in the UK. Between 1997 and 2009, the venue was turned into an Opera House. Finally, in 2009 when the Opera House was sold to AMG Group, it was rebranded as O2 Academy Bournemouth. Presently, the Academy hosts live music shows, traditional dance performances and music events.

O2 Academy Bournemouth Reviews & Ratings
The venue itself is really nice. The layout is great and the interactions I had with all of the staff were really pleasant. However, the toilets were vile, if working at all. I was a little miffed that I paid on top of the ticket price for a refurbishment of the building fee, but they can't keep their facilities working. Still, really enjoyed the gig as long as I didn't need the bathroom.
One of my favourite venues. It's very small, so always an up close experience. It's also easy to park nearby and easy to get away after the gig.
Great venue for bands, the perfect size to generate an amazing atmosphere. The facilities are (toilets / bar) are in need of an update, but for a two hour Rock concert it's fine. Constantly surprised by the quality of the bands they get here.
Beautiful venue let down by service. Can be difficult to get a drink at the bar and often don't open some of the bars. If you are a smoker, don't arrive early as you will not be able to leave for a cigarette. There is often no smoking even after the support band has started as the smoking area is set up at the entrance once most people have arrived. Otherwise they do have good bands and the atmosphere is good.
Lots of room huge dance floor. Two more levels with BRILLIANT views of stage and comfortable chairs to rest. If ur all danced out
