Deriving its name from Bill McKechnie, the former Pirates manager, the Mckechnie Field was established in 1962 as a baseball field. In 2017, the Mckechnie Field changed its name to LECOM Park (Lake Eerie College of Osteopathic Medicine). It is used by the Pittsburgh Pirates as the springtime training center and a premier venue for major and minor league baseball games. The stadium is one of the oldest in the country and has a nostalgic appeal to many baseball enthusiasts and traditionalists.

McKechnie Field Reviews & Ratings

  • Great fireworks, food, and eager fans of both spring training and regular season ball. Clean as a whistle..get right up close and see the players. Always up for pics and autographs..shops are box seat is bad!! Best park in America!

  • The Mrs and I were here today for the Pirates and Boston. Not our first time but this time the stadium was sold out. Even with this crowd concessions ran smoothly with only a minimal wait. Great viewing, really up close to the action. The KWV Honor Guard was great and the young lady who sang the Nation Anthem did a super job. Didn't notice anyone kneeling. The facility staff was great. Friendly and engaging. I thought the police presence was over the top. Including dogs. Beer was cold, dogs and peanuts were great. We enjoy coming here very much.

  • This is the best spring training park that I’ve been to out of 8 so far. Inside is roomy, with many different concession areas. Also, many bathrooms for everyone. The seats have great sight lines and a fun atmosphere watching from the outfield decks where you can get food or drinks. The clubhouse store also has a good selection of items. I docked one star for the roads accessing the stadium and getting into the parking. There has to be a better way to get people into and around the stadium on game days and official parking entrances could be labeled better. However, that’s a small grievance for the great experience you can have here. Lastly, the staff was attentive, polite, and helpful.

  • Great little ballpark for Pirates spring training and easy to get to and from the airport

  • Today was Education Day and the Marauders won 2-1 at the park. Food was good, parking easy and cheap, great day to see a game. Park is clean and staff so helpful with 1500 kids attending.
