The towering Black Church was erected by the German community in a gothic style and it acts as the largest and among the main Evangelical Churches of Augustan Confession in Romania. The church derives its name from the fatal fire in 17th century that had left the black colour on the church exterior. The Black Church rises 65 metres tall with its bell tower that consists of the biggest bell in Romania. The grits used in the exterior walls of the church has been ruined in the course of time; however, you can still see the sculptures, arches, trilobes, portals and some simple masonry. In the choir section, you can see the bust of John the Baptist which reflects Bohemian Gothic style. The Renaissance influenced bas-relief of Christ, a partly ruined mural near the south-eastern portal and the cast iron-built tabernacle are the features of the church.
