The Bratislava Castle dates back to 907 AD and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city. The place was built overlooking the Danube river and you can see Austria (also Hungary on a clear day) from the Castle itself.
Originally built as a part of fortification for the city’s defense, today the building serves as a collection of the Slovak National Museum, exhibition of the region’s treasures and as a Museum of history.

Bratislava Castle Reviews & Ratings
It's beauty and majesty transports you as you gaze in the past. Down the Danube to the right, you can see into Austria, to the left Hungary. This crossroads city is an important stop in Central Europe. And it's burst of modern growth past the city center demonstrates even more so in the future. You can feel all that from the castle. It's magic.
Very impressive castle. Good for kids. Lots of displays and exhibits to read and see. Nice view of the city from the entrance. The inside is is very updated because it was restored in the last 10 years.
Beautiful castle and grounds. The views from the top are worth the walk up alone. The grounds and gardens are all free of charge however note that it is a steep walk up many steps (worth it though). The castle itself has been totally restored and is now a museum and gallery with interesting and varied exhibitions. We didn't find much information however on the inhabitants so ended up googling a lot of that ourselves. The baroque staircase is noted to be the largest if it's kind and is pretty spectacular.
Amazing place to sit and observe the busy city. Heaving with tourists, so I recommend going early. It is an amazing place to sit and watch the sunset, so make sure you've climbed to the top and bagged a good viewing point before the sun sets otherwise you'll be battling with insta-posers 🙄 Castle looks spectacular day and night. We took two trips up, once at night to watch the sun set, and another the day after each offering a unique but spectacular experience.
The gardens were great. They made an exact replica of what the gardens were like. I almost felt like I went back in time. This is a beautiful place.
