The first thing you’ll notice about this tower is its massive, massive onion dome. It’s the biggest onion dome in Europe. It was built in 1601 as a granary. The views of Bregenz from the top of the tower are its main draw, but you’ll also enjoy two other things – the chapel and the museum.

The chapel of St. Martin was built before the tower though it has now been integrated into the larger building. It has pretty 14th and 15th century frescoes, and a life-sized wooden statue of the saint. The museum is small but effective. It tells Bregenz’s history.

  • Bus 12 stop Hafen Bregenz. From here you’ll have to walk to Old Town. Check attraction website for clearly mapped directions on how to reach the tower from the bus stop.
  • Get there walking, rather than by car.

  • We visited the tower on a very sunny day and we had an spectacular view over the old town. Also the Frescoes in the church underneath the tower you must see.

  • Sehr Sehenswert
