At the shores of one of the most famous freshwater lakes in Austria, the capital of Vorarlberg, Bregenz is situated. There are a lot of different places to visit in Bregenz and a lot of activities which you can do during spending your vacation there. The charming beauty along with some interesting and popular points of interest makes Bregenz apart from many other cities in Austria. 1. Lake Constance

One of the largest fresh water lakes in Europe is Lake Constance. It is known as Bodensee among the local people. You will find parts of the lake in Austria, Switzerland, and Germany. For West Germany, it is one of the major water sources. At the shores of the Lake, there are a lot of towns and all of different cultures. One among those major cities on the shores of Lake Constance is Bregenz.

2. Bregenz Promenade

The best place to walk at any time of the day in Bregenz is without any doubt the Promenade located at the shores of Lake Constance. Here you can watch the beautiful sunrise in the morning which will make your whole day gleeful. In the morning if you visit the place, you can see a lot of locals walking with their dogs or jogging. The place is great to walk around in the evening moonlight too. You can watch for hours the ferries and boats coming and going with a cup of coffee as there are a lot of cafes. You can create an adventure of your own by hiring a paddle boat and roaming in the water. During your stay in Bregenz, this place is a must visit.

One of most popular destination for tourists in Bregenz is the mountain towers. You can reach the Pfander by moving on the cable cars names Pfanderbhan. The cars make the place even more special as you will be able to see the picturesque view and the great landscapes while riding the car. Other than the tremendous view, you will be able to see the Alpine Park there along with some great restaurants. For the lovers of hiking, you will find some hiking trails there too.

4. St. Martins Tower

One of the major historic symbols of the town is the onion doomed tower. The tower and the chapel are there since the 14th century. You will get a real good view of the town of Bregenz and its countryside from the top of the tower. The place is a real interesting place to watch as you will find some very old art work and frescos in the chapel.

5. Fort Heldsberg

You will get a real feel of war in  Fort Heldsberg. It will remind you of how bloody wars were at that time. To create a defense against the forces which are advancing from Rhine and Lake Constance, this fortification was done in the year 1939. Once a defense station is now a museum for the tourists.  You can get a look at the tunnel network and also at the bunkers and see that how the construction was done during that period. The place is a real interesting one which recreates the history of the Second World War.

6. Voralberg Museum

Voralberg museum is a must watch of Bregenz located at a very prime location which is just at a walking distance from Promenade and also very close to the station. The structure of the building a mixture of classical as well as modern architecture. The bottom section of the place is white washed and has a lot of windows while the upper section has a giant glass window on a side. There is a great collection of folklore, history, and archaeology inside the museum which attracts a lot of tourists.

7. Schattenburg Castle

The castle was built in the 1100s in Feldkirch, a small village. This medieval castle has been owned by a lot of people during time, Hasburgs are one of them. The castle is in the center of the village and is the highest point there. The features for which the tourists visit here are the wooden gates, wooden beams, and the window frames with iron cross work. Now, you will find a museum inside the castle along with a great authentic Austrian restaurant. The village is really a great place to roam around with the castle standing tall in the middle.

8. Rappenlochschlucht

A natural beauty at a distance of 30 minutes drive from Bregenz to its south-east side is Rappenlochschlucht. There are a lot of waterfalls and a canyon which is certainly one of the largest in whole Europe. Due to the landslide, the people could not visit there is 2011 but is open after the situation there improved. Now the place is maintained very carefully as it is a major tourist attraction. The rock formation in the canyon is amazing to watch. The beautiful waterfalls can be seen closely from the footbridges hung over the water. The place is really fantastic but due to the landslide issues, hiking can be a bit dangerous here.

9. Bregenz Festival

Every year in the month of July and August the art festival is held here. It is one of the biggest events not only in Bregenz but in Austria. The festival was first organized in 1946, since then it has evolved a lot with time. A lot of different venues are present there for the festival like floating stages which are surrounded by the amphitheaters. There are also theatres where you can see the operas. The Vienna Symphony Orchestra the renowned band performs there every year. If you by any chance visit the place during July and August, just book the tickets for this amazing festival.

In the Austrian cuisine, you will get different mouthwatering and delicious dishes. The environment there is very homely. You can have some great dishes like the Styrian Pot Roast, The Tafelspitz, or the Tiroler Grostl. Like the St. Martin’s Tower, the tower of this church can also be seen from anywhere is Bregenz. The church was made in the 14th century. The interior of the church is really great to watch which attracts a lot of tourists. Throughout the building, you will see white stucco and pink marble. 15. The Lindau Town

On the eastern coast of the Lake Constance, you will found the town which can be called an island too. The town is located at a driving distance of 10 minutes from Bregenz.
