Reminiscent of the Trafalgar Square in London, the National Heroes Square was in fact formerly known as Trafalgar Square. A statue of Lord Nelson was erected (way before the statue in London was) in 1805 to commemorate his visit to Bridgetown; the National Heroes Square is built around this same statue.
A stone’s throw away from the Parliament Buildings, the National Heroes Square marks the centre of the town and has quite a few points of interest. The Dolphin Fountain for example marks the advent of running water in Barbados and a World War memorial is erected to honour the local heroes wholaid down their lives during both the wars.
