Capuchin Monastery - Review
While visiting the Capuchin Monastery, the first things you will notice are the claustrophobic passageways boasting of some outstanding stoneworks and mummified bodies of the dignitaries. The main attraction, however, lies at the Main Vault Crypt or the Funeral Room which was built in the seventeenth century to bury the friars. Due to the airing system and the geological composition of topsoil, the buried bodies remained as mummies. There was still some accidental burial too and you can see such an example in the corpse of a lady in a panic-stricken pose. 24 mummified monks lying in a row, clad in robes and rosaries and holding crucifix will surely keep you hooked. The Baroque building with the carved ceiling is definitely artistic and historical at the same time.
