Australia, particularly Western Australia, is rich in pearling history. Broome is home to finest pearl to be found anywhere in the world- the South Sea Pearl. The Pearl Luggers is a museum and gallery dedicated to the region’s history of diving down to the deep to scout for some of the world’s most coveted pearls- a dangerous choice of life, mind you!
Two of the pearl luggers have been restored along with other diving equipment the pearl divers used. These two luggers are the only two surviving vessels and are situated around a reconstructed jetty. Learn about Broome’s maritime history as you hold a 100,000 dollar worth gem of the ocean in your hand. Guided tours are conducted on the hour.
