  • Neat and clean - value for money. Opportunity to meet fellow backpackers. Good breakfast. (There were several rooms empty, yet the front office staff didn't let me do an early check in).

  • Ok, here goes my harshest review for a youth hostel yet. I usually give good reviews despite a number of pain points because of the cheap prices, and Van Gogh is definitely cheap ; but that's because the lower hygiene standards, small spaces and poor equipment doesn't usually detract from the overall comfort of the traveller of simple tastes. Here however, a number of things absolutely detracted from my comfort: the absence of hot water/bad flow in half/all the showers, the supremely annoying buzzing when opening the room door, the paper quality sheets, the dirtyness. Of course, the personnel is nice (special bonus for the social flavor), and the place is right in the middle of Brussels. At this price, it's not like it's a bad deal ; and yet, I wish it was a few euros more expensive per night and that these problems were solved. I know the building is old and some stuff needs expensive repairs, but it's not my job to find excuses: I just rate my stay, and my stay was worth 3 stars all considered.

  • One of the worst places I have been at. The rooms are not properly cleaned, there was hair on the floor, the bathroom was probably not properly cleaned for long time as there was calcium everywhere and in the breakfast cafeteria we asked for fresh glasses for coffee and juice and first the staff didn't even want to give it to us. And don't let me even start on knives, we had to spread our butter with spoons. I strongly suggest to the hostel owners to improve their services and level of cleanliness.

  • Comfy rooms, the hosts are very nice. The breakfast felt like a sad boarding school though. Nevertheless it's close to the centre and has a good vibe.

  • The hostel is rather good. As for locating it is not far from city centre. The rooms are not big, the bed is good and comfortable. The only problem for me was the lack of sockets in the room. I wasn't able to charge my phone. Staff is really friendly and breakfast is good.
