The viewpoint at Inspiration Point consists of three levels. This three level structure provides varied spectacular perspectives of the main amphitheater. From here, visitors look towards the Silent City (near Sunset Point) with its many rows of seemingly frozen hoodoos which are set against the backdrop of Boat Mesa. All who look out from this point are definitely going to be inspired, thanks to the intricacies of the hoodoos and their formation through the erosion. The barren slopes of Inspiration Point consist of a mix of trees including Bristlecone Pines. While they are famous for their venerable ages, younger bristle cones go on to take a very different appearance. They are thin, tall and unique among pines in which the entire lengths of the branches are covered with needles. This also gives them the bushy appearance that earned them the nickname "fox-tail pines." Look carefully as you walk through these barren slopes – otherwise you might just come across a Mountain Short-horned Lizard trying to remain camouflaged!
