Photographers that seek sunset pictures are often disappointed by the fact that most of the cliffs and hoodoos of Bryce Canyon do not face the west where the sun sets. Paria View is one exception to that phenomenon. Here you will spot one prominent and photogenic castle-like hoodoo that rises high above the canyon floor to absorb the last rays of the setting sun. Paria basically means "water with elk" or "water with mud". The translation varies depending on season or context. As you look down to the southeast you will find yourself gazing into the Paria River watershed. This region is known for its slot canyons. These slot canyons are said to be carved by rapid rates of runoff during the spring thaws in the Ice Age. Even in today's climate which is comparatively much drier, some erosion still continues to occur during flash floods. Due to this, hikers are urged to stay out of the Paria Canyons during thunderstorms. This river's watershed is so huge that even a mild rainfall can create catastrophic flooding downstream. The bottom of this slot canyon is the last place you want to be when a 30 feet wall of water comes roaring downstream at around 50 miles per hour.

Beautiful. Nicer than the Amphitheatre I think. Well with the drive.
This was a surprisingly quiet viewpoint in Bryce. Not many come here, which makes it a bit more enjoyable to enjoy the views without the crowds.
Kind of a cool little off the main track canyon. Its smaller and more intimate than the larger Bryce Canyon. Still gorgeous and you can see out towards the Grand Stair Case and Lake Powell in the distance
