Budapest Castle Hill Funicular, Budapest Reviews
Saved us the steep walk up the hill. Google maps could not clearly tell us how to get up to the Castle and Fisherman's Bastion, and so we went with the funicular - which is the most direct. There are people there trying to sell you bus tickets, and once at the top we saw that city buses got there somehow, but navigating was harder than it looked, and in the end, worth a few Forints to save us the time. We thought walking back down would be easier - and while it is, in some regards, it's also indirect, and it would have been simpler to take the funicular round-trip. For many, it won't be worth the money - just take the long walk with a view - but I'm glad we experienced it at least once. Note, it's a very quick ride, and not easy to take great photos through the windows.
Visited this place on my recent trip, expected to see fantastic views of the city of Budapest, and boy were my expectations met. There are a couple of ways to get to the top of the castle, namely, hike up or take public transport or the funicular. The funicular was by far the most expensive of the 3 options but well worth the experience in my opinion. Although, I was recommend that changes are made to the train capsules that do not allow for a good view, as there are no open windows.
Always fun to go up in a funicular. Neat and clean and maintained. Short ride.
I always heard it's one of the must-do things in Town. It was a little disappointing. The cost is about $5 per person and the ride takes just one minute. The view is rather restricted too. If you have the time and don't mind walking I would suggest going up the hill the old fashioned way. You'll get better views along the way and the best view, of course, is at the top.
A very short trip but worth it to not have to climb the stairs up to the castle. No sense getting a return ticket though; buy a one way and then walk down the hill to get fabulous views of the Szechenyi Chain Bridge.
