Matthias Church which is located right in front of the iconic Fisherman's Bastion enjoys a place of honor at the heart of Buda's Castle District. It was a Romanesque style building later rebuilt in the neo- gothic style which it is in now. Very little of the original church remains as it had to be reconstructed from its ruins a couple of times. Nevertheless it is quite beautiful today.
The church has one grand towering steeple which makes it an imposing structure. The colorful architecture gives it a very eccentric feel whereas the grayish stone gives an eerie appearance. This odd and majestic castle is one of those places that can easily transport you back in time. The sculptures in stone, the stained glass windows and the skylights make the altar look absolutely stunning. The appearance is enhanced even further when lit up at night.
The church is integral to the historic past of Hungary so be sure to put it on your list of must see places. It is a great place to explore for any tourist but perhaps the religious will appreciate it the most.
