The Vajdahunyad Castle situated inside City Park in Budapest. Constructed for the millennium Exhibition which put Budapest on the world map, the castle was initially made of cardboard.  It was only concretized later.  Today it is a grand and majestic tourist attraction. This building was a part of the Millennium Celebrations of Budapest which marked the 1000 year anniversary of settlement in Hungary.

Castle looks almost fairytale like with its Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architecture. This mix of styles is a tribute to the several iconic buildings of Hungary thought of by the architect, Ignac Alpar. Presently it is also home to the Agricultural Museum of Hungary, the greatest agrarian display center in Europe. This castle and the park around it are a definite must visit for a visitor to Budapest who wants to see the diverse architecture of the place all rolled into one beautiful mélange of colors textures and styles.

Another striking feature that will definitely grab your attention in the castle’s garden is Anonymus Szobor–the statue of anonymous. While the minute craftwork of this dark statue will put you in awe of it, the beautiful story will thrill you to know more about the statue. According to the story, this beautiful sculpture was created by sculptor Miklós Ligeti to pay a tribute to the nameless storysteller.

  • The statue of Anonymous the unknown writer of Gesta Hungarorum is within the palace grounds.

  • Entrance for permanent exhibition: Adult: 600HUF & Children and retired: 300HUF
  • Anonymus Szobor: The statue is open for 24 hours.

  • Looks absolutely amazing. Building like from fairy tale. Surrounded by water, colourful, great plants in garden. Just wonderful place to see and definately one to remember. There is a restaurant inside. I tried only coffee, but tasted very good.

  • During the advent time there is really nice place for ice-skating. The castle is very nice from the outside. We didn't go inside (not sure if you even can go inside).

  • This was one of the first places we visited on our week-long trip to Budapest, and was a definite highlight of the trip. Even though the castle is a replica, it is still stunningly gorgeous and covered in eye-catching detail. The museum inside is ok, but the trip up the tower is definitely worth the entrance fee, even if you're not interested in the anthropology inside. And if course the grounds are stunning.

  • Nice little castle in the heart of the City Park, close to subway station so it is cery easy to reach. Very good place for a romantic walk. The lake next to the castle is also charming. Also there is a museum inside the castle. It is about agriculture.

  • A very beautifully castle with a lot of local small shops nearby. It has a big variety of colours and the design fits perfectly to a fairy tail. It reminds me of Prague.
