Buffalo on the whole still feels very guilty about the death of President William McKinley . He was shot in 1901 by Leon Czolgosz who was a psyched believer of anarchy and belonged to Detroit. So in the year of 1907, the city created an obelisk of white marble which was 93 feet tall in height. It was dedicated to the martyred President. The cost of the monument was around 105,000 USD. It is covered at all four compass points by giant lions made out of marble, and are sculpted from the life of a really a famous lion that was a part of the Bronx Zoo.
This monument is a true dedication to his life as it has details about his life engraved at all corners. On the northern most face, which points towards the spot where McKinley died and fell down, the inscription points out that the President was an unfortunate "victim of a treacherous assassin" who "shot the President as he was extending the hand of courtesy."
