Kiwi Observatory, Burkes Pass Reviews
One of the best experiences we had driving around NZ for three weeks was stopping in Timaru and visiting this place. The Observatory is handmade and operated by enthusiastic amateur astronomers who will infect you with their passion for the stars. They do great outreach work and share their knowledge with kids and youth groups, supporting the next generation of stargazers. As it is less well known, you are guaranteed of a private and personal tour with the opportunity to see some beautiful sights through their telescopes.
Before you visit this Observatory, it is suggested that travellers read the largely negative Google reviews about Mr McTague and the way he has been apparently ripping off astronomy people purchasing goods via the NZ Telescopes website. Both Police and the Disputes Tribunal have been involved, so caution is advised when dealing with Mr McTague
Never been there so don't really know why I'm getting made to rate this place
So they don't have kiwi birds. Tourist beware... Still pretty cool though!
