Paronella Park - Review

It is a popular tourist castle located near Mena Creek Falls, 120 kilometers south of Cairns. It was built by Jose Paronella in 1930. His dream was to build a castle between the woods and thus, he decided to build this place. The castle is surrounded by picnic areas near the falls, tennis court, bridges and a tunnel, adorned by beautiful dense tropical rainforest.

  • Paronella Park is a fascinating old castle within falls and rain forest and a nice story of Australia immigration behind. Quite and very relaxing to sleep overnight too. Beautiful falls but you can't really swim in as in 2014 a salt water crocodile has been spotted in the pool. Toilets are very clean and the staff was nice. Although all the good things I wouldn't stop here again. Once is enough. I mean if you are travelling around Queensland and don't have much time and especially money just drive pass this place.

  • This place is fantastic. The labour of an immigrant, he built this garden using concrete and steel. It's in poor condition due to the materials he built it out of, but the effect of the ruins peaking out of the tropical greenery makes for a haunting effect. I would have loved to see it when it was new. There is a swimming area here but I don't know if you're allowed in as I went in a chilly winter. If you're a photography buff and in the area, for gods' sake stop in. You won't regret the opportunity.

  • Mark the owner is amazing, he was at the entrance welcoming people he got chatting with my 4 yr old that loves cars and he was amazed by how he knows about cars, anyway he showed interest in his customers and what he does. My family and I enjoyed our day. In the parking there is also someone directing and finding you parking spaces. Staff just make things easy for you from the moment you get there.

  • What a fantastic place to stay. If you pay for the park visit, you get a free nights accommodation at their caravan park, which is situated behind the Hotel, which is owned by the Park owners. They send a bus to pick you up from your van and return you after your Park visit. We also did the night tour with the light show, which was fantastic. We have been to Paronella previously and would say that the owners have improved the experience dramatically. A brilliant place to visit, the story of Paronella is one that a movie should have been made for. The hotel has fantastic meals at a reasonable price. Highly recommended as a place to visit and stay for the night.

  • Very beautiful place with interesting history here at Paronella Park. So unique for Australia. Mark, the owner greets his customers at the door with the friendliest most personable welcome it was hard to walk away! These guys take SO much pride in what they have its really really nice to see. They really know how to do the family owned & run business thing! Highest quality of service and great tour. We also received a free camping voucher but unfortunately didn't time our return journey well and missed it (next time!). Thank you so so much from Adil & Irena (the Moroccan/Australian couple)

  • I am interested if the refurbishment of the BALL ROOM. On my last visit 18/24 months ago, it was on the list of to do's. My interest streaches back to 1964/5 when I and some ARMY mates visited for my first time. REGARDS, ZAC

    • Hi Zac,

Paronella Park is a popular wedding venue. Once a preferred venue for weddings, the Park's extravagant ballroom was destroyed in the fire in 1979, but today has reopened and is back at creating wonderful memories.
