The City of the Dead, also referred to as the northern cemetery, is an area home to a couple of funerary complexes. The city of the dead comprises of the Mosque of Qaitbey which was completed in 1474 AD, Mausoleum of Ibn Barquq, the Complex of Sultan Ashraf Barsbey and more. The irony of this place is that although it is called the city of the dead the place is pretty crowded.
The northern cemetery is basically a historic cemetery of Cairo that is now occupied by those people who couldn’t afford an expensive accommodation in the city.
