The church is so named because of its location above a gatehouse of the Babylon fortress. It’s famous for not only its Coptic Architecture, but also for being one of the first examples of the Basilican style. The entrance of the church is worth seeing as it is completely decorated and has an open courtyard, which has twenty nine steps leading towards the church. The church has marble pulpit, icons, murals and even inlaid screens. The most famous site of this church is the Virgin Mary which is definitely worth watching. Also, visit the popular attractions in the city by following Cairo itinerary 4 days.

Hanging Church Reviews & Ratings
So impressed with what I saw. The holy sites, the holy symbols of the Coptic Church and early Christians. Egypt sure do have a great history the religion and colonialism destroyed. There the real tree trunks that held the hanging Church in place. Offer prayers for the less privileged there too. The ornaments of hermits and saints. Controlled environment, secured and valued. Traffic is light. You just have to go and see the history or the early church in Egypt ( in Africa). The museum has a lot of history about early Christian symbols and artifacts. First written scriptures in Coptic and Arabic. Early golden coins, holy vessels and antiques. Early Christians fabrics and writings on stones, bones, fabrics and woods.
Really liked this koptic church, we can see both Greek and Arabic influence in the architecture. The top of the church is designed as Noah's ark. They have some really great paintings. They area is peaceful and very well preserved.
Free to go inside. This is a beautiful church - I would definitely recommend hiring any of the tour guides who hang around outside for them to give you a complete tour. They will be able to point out many of the details that you wouldn’t be able to notice on your own.
It's a beautiful church. Reflects the history of the place. The church has maintained its heritage well. No doubt the government has also been instrumental in this.
Very historical... The foundation where from the Babylonian era and glass floor panels allow you to see beneath the church floor. Fantastic wooden window and door framework. Lovely stair case. Worth a visit if your in the area.
