Sphinx - Review
The Terrifying One, as the Great Sphinx is known in Egypt, is built of limstone and has the head of a man with the face of a Pharaoh, a hawk or a ram with the body, and tail and legs of a lion. Modern Egyptology holds that the Sphinx was built in 2500BC by Khafra. There has been much controversy over the true age of the Sphinx, circling around the question whether the erosion of its structure is wind or water caused. If the water erosion hypothesis is true, then the Sphinx could be four thousand years older than originally thought.

Sphinx, Cairo Reviews
As usual a great place. I was here during the exam period so there was not too many teenagers or local kids which I've read can be a handful. Since I had a guide there was not much pestering from the souvenir sellers. Anyway they don't really pester you if you don't show any interest. Best is to pay to visit one of larger pyramids.
If you visit Cairo you should visit Giza's Pyramids and Sphinx ... that is the most Iconic & Mysterious Place On Earth, You Can Feel How Great Was The Kings and How Many People Died Building This Gaint Tombs Just To Make The Kings EGO Immortal ... They Believed in life after death. When you visit this place try to avoid locals they will bother you there and try to sell you things and insist on that ... best thing is to walk and feel the desert atmospheric Heat.. by the way when you visit the pyramid you will think Egyptian pharaohs was tall but the truth they was short and almost black... it was the kingdom of Africa ... At the end it was a great journey and don't forget to take pics and share them on Google map :)
If you are in Egypt and Cairo make the trip to visit the Sphinx. It is well worth the trip and the time spent. It is an incredible site. Due to being the desert and there being very little shade timing your trip for earlier in the day is recommended. There is a minimal admissions fee to enter the grounds. I recommend taking Uber to get here. If you take a cab be prepared to be ushered into a souvenir shop. If they attempt this I recommend standing your ground and refusing. There is nothing special in the shops and it is overpriced. Hiring a tour guide to walk the grounds was a good choice. They were very knowledgeable and greatly reduced the number of vendors that accosted us. That said be prepared for them to pressure you for very large tips/fees. No matter what you offer they will take the attitude that it is not enough. I recommend $10-$20 per person in your party. If you were happy with your guide. Once you reach the decision of how much to pay hold your ground. They will continue to badger you for more.
Was great to hear and see this amazing sculpture carved out of one big rock! You can get pretty close to it, however the bottom level was closed off due to refurbishing work being done on it. Got a picture with it and the Great Pyramids in the background!
One of the most amazing structures that I have ever seen is that of The Great Sphinx ,which is one of the oldest, largest and most sacred sculptures of the Egyptians. It is located on the Giza plateau in the historical city of Giza(third largest city in Egypt). The Sphinx is believed to have the head of a human(probably representing the Pharaoh Khafre) and the body of a lion.It was supposedly made to guard the Great Pyramids which are in the background , and also the City of Giza... It is the world's largest monolith statue made of limestone and symbolizes strength and wisdom. It is positioned facing the east which is the direction of the rising sun .The Great Sphinx is one of the most mysterious and mesmerizing structures as there are many unanswered questions pertaining to it . Nevertheless , it is a breathtaking sight to see the Great Sphinx ....and I will always remember with awe , the stunningly beautiful creation which was painstakingly made centuries ago and has stood the test of time...
