The largest museum of Western Canada has more than 20 permanent galleries and does a fantastic job telling the history of Calgary and Alberta and the legacy it leaves behind. The timeline follows the pre-oil, post oil and everything else in between.

What makes it so beloved, is the museum’s interactive displays that educates the viewers about the history of the land and the lives of the Alberta Natives. The museum has a fascinating repertoire of temporary exhibitions that are changed quite frequently.

  • Always a treat and a fun experience to go to Glenbow. A wide variety of both Canadian and international exhibits makes the visit applicable to anyone, and will really make you pass the time without knowing. There’s a lot to see and learn, and it’s nice to see a lot of people really engaged with different artifacts and artworks. Worth the money and your time, and the free first Thursdays of each month is a snag.

  • What a gem this place is. The regular exhibits are worth a few visits, especially the parts with Alberta's history. But they get great exhibits rotating through. We make a point of going the first Thursday of each month as it's free and we go with our preschooler - it's a great way to introduce her to art, history, culture.

  • Mixed thoughts. I like the facility and love that Calgary has this museum, but so many of the shows are not locally relevant. I would rather have a good Alberta or Western Canadian show instead of a low tier international offering (Frieda Kahlo good example). Show us more of what you have hidden away!

  • The Glenbow celebrated the launch of 3 new exhibits by hosting a party last weekend. It was very well attended and they had some really great musical guests. It was open to all ages so we brought the kids. We spent a couple hours there perusing the entire museum. Lots of fun! Beyond their events, this museum is a great place to spend an afternoon. As many times as I've been there, I always discover something new.

  • This was where my wife and i had our first date and where i later asked her to marry me. the staff is amazing they were fully there to help make the proposal special. Love the museum always has really amazing art and the layout is great. Fav place to go.
