The Stone Memorial for Vasco de Gama stands tall in honor of the Portugese explorer who landed on Indian soil in 1498 at Kappad Beach along with 170 Portugese sailors.
The inscription on the stone memorial reads: "Vasco DA Gama landed here, Kappakadavu, in the year 1498." He is deserving of such an honor as his expeditions paved the way for a sea route that was used by the Europeans to reach the wealth that the Malabar Coast possessed. This resulted in European domination for close to 400 years. It is the highlight of the Kappad Beach.

Stone Memorial For Vasco De Gama Reviews & Ratings
A room with a great beach view. Professional and perfectly trained staff. Super stay, super service. Absolute value for money. Most recommended! .
Awesome hosts. Great location. People hosting you are finest I ve come across. No frown at all. Being north Indian, I had apprehensions but they made my holiday and time worth spending. Food was great. Morning walks, sea shores, crabs, fishes. Rich coast. Saw dolphins by grace too.
Descent well maintained clean resort. Easy access to beach just across the compound. Food tastes average and expensive for that quality. Premium rooms match 3star properties. Good size swimming pool. But highly chlorinated. Nice get out for a couple of days.
Great place. Staff was really friendly and helpful. We were a large group of around 10 families and they went out of their way to arrange the hall for us for a new year get together , with very short notice. Don't expect five star experience, because it is not a five star hotel, but rooms are neat and well maintained with all amenities. The beach is just across the road and can get crowded with locals during the weekends.( Only after5 pm though) Some things that could be improved: The food at their restaurant : pricey but not that great, although I heard that it is much better than what it was before the new ownership. The bathrooms are neat, but there is no partition for the bathing area and the whole place gets wet when one has a bath. A bit run down too. They have to be very strict with the dress code in the swimming pool. They have to put up signs saying that swim wear is compulsory . The pool is maintained well, but it is off putting to see fully clothed women jumping in without even having a shower there. On the whole we had a lovely time there!
Everything about the resort is nice. U have a beach just few steps ahead. So u can go in there anytime u want. Pool is also good. Staff is very courteous and helpful. The vibe in resort is a bliss because of the beach ahead. If u take upstair rooms they have a balcony with beach view. Restaurant is not bad. Food is quite expensive. I would suggest u go ahead and explore Kozhikode food than having it from there.
