Xcaret - Review
The Xcaret area has an interesting past. It is believed to be what was formerly known as the ancient port of Polé. The Maya would come to this area to purify themselves before visiting Cozumel to worship Ixchel- the goddess of fertility. Even today, you can find ancient remains of the Maya civilisation here.
The Xcaret Eco Theme Park covers an area of 200 acres of this historic place. When architect Miguel Quintana Pali (who owned 5 hectares) cleared out the area in the 1980’s, he found a series of underground rivers that formed sinkholes and caves before it joined the sea. He understood this was a rare place and could become an unique tourist spot and soon he planned an Eco park in the area.
In a way, the park is not your conventional idea of a theme park since it uses the natural heritage and environment including the ancient ruins with the thick jungle cover, the underground river and cave system and the rich native flora and fauna to offer visitors an oasis away from the concrete jungle. The park includes a Jaguar island, a Coral reef aquarium, an Orchid greenhouse home to around 80 different species of orchid, a breeding farm, a number of caverns and a butterfly farm where you can see some of the most beautiful butterflies on the planet!
The jungle trails are stunning with pathways that meander around thick forest cover. However, if you are feeling a little too adventurous, you can swim with nurse sharks and sting rays at the park or simply go snorkelling to see gorgeous tropical fishes. The entire area works to preserve the turtle population. If you time your visit, you can see the hatchings and learn about different turtles that are preserved at the park. When here, don’t miss the cultural attractions at the park that include a replica of the Mayan Village, the Mesoamerican ball game and the open theatre where you can see pre Hispanic dances.

Xcaret, Cancun Reviews
It is very pretty and located right in the Mayan jungle so there are lots of trees. There are lots of activities to do here like swim with dolphins and sharks, swim on the beach, ride a fast boat, an aquarium. What we enjoyed most was the show that they have in the evenings so you don't want to miss out! It was a beautiful musical presentation that described the history of Mexico and how it came to be what it is now. It was truly beautiful and as a Mexican American and also as a Spanish teacher it made me very proud to be Mexican! If you go to Xcaret don't miss out on the show!! They also have concessions in the arena area for beer, drinks and snacks! The potato chips we're delicious!!
My wife and I visited Xcaret for the first time 15 years ago and it was one of the most memorably places, that is the main reason I wanted to take my twin boys (9 years), teenage daughter (16) and the entire group we travel with (15 of us all ages) to see Xcaret again in June 2018, this place has flourished so much and it was 10 times bigger and better then I could remember, which was an amazing and positive surprise. They have 5 main lanes red, black, white, blue and green that covers the entire park and make so much easy to navigate. They have 3 lanes for the lazy river, we only had time to take one of them as the park is huge and could see / do everything in one day! We all took a dive with the sting rays it was an amazing experience, my teenager went on a parasailing adventure! They have dolphin swim but we did that in the day before in another location. This place is highly recommended for everyone of all ages, if you are in Cancun, you have to go see this place it’s absolutely amazing!!!
Probably the best Park in the world. I was initially put off by the high price, but it's worth every single cent. Basically you end up spending 10-12 hours in the park and the plus ticket includes an absolutely delicious buffet lunch that is all you can eat. The park is enormous but extremely well constructed, maintained, super clean and meticulously designed. It's full of super friendly and helpful staff. The park houses a wide range of nature and wildlife activities for all age groups and essentially tries to show all aspects of Mexican wildlife and culture through different activities. A majority of the activities are water based so you will get wet. Bring a gopro or water proof camera. Make sure to not miss the spectacular 2h evening show!
An amazing cultural and historical experience for all ages. It is worth getting the Plus Ticket which includes access to lockers and a meal. Check out the flying men, the football game and the amazing cemetery. Stay around for the cultural show which is included. The best part is swimming down the underground rivers! It can be a long day - but well worth it - you will not be disappointed
Had a great time at this park. The under ground river walk was amazing. Get a water proof case to use your own camera while in the water. They have a photo package you can buy. A lot to do and see. Don't go hungry, not a lot of snack places around. Several buffet restaurants. Had a great time, highly recommend.
