West Coast National Park, Cape Town Reviews
This is a lovely little reserve stocked with several species of buck. It's one of the places to go to in flower season on the West Coast. Prolific with flowers. Easy access from Cape Town because it's just an hour away. Get there early because it can be almost bumper to bumper in flower season. Otherwise it's very quiet
An amazing place to get away from life's distractions. Magnificent nature all around, from the ostriches in the reserve, to the beautiful lagoon and beach water, clean and postcard worthy sandy beaches and rock formations. Would get 5 stars if they had showers/restrooms for public, as you really do need it after a day on the beach and then a long drive home!
West Coast National Park covers a large area of land north of Cape Town. Several different ecosystems are encompassed by the park: lagoon, coastal ocean and coastal scrub or bush. A large variety of mammals and birds inhabit the park including several species of antelope, zebra, water fowl, ostriches, etc. The largest predators in the park are jackals and the rarely seen caracol. The park is famous for the wide variety of native plants which display colorful blossoms in the spring. This is the high season for tourism but I visited in autumn and really enjoyed being one of the few tourists in the park.
A really great park and well worth a visit, the "Atlantic view point" is especially magnificient. My suggestion is go during the week if possible when the park is quieter and you can appreciate the magnificence of this natural phenomenon, over weekends the park gets busy, and unfortunately even though it is clearly stated "No loud music" it is blatantly ignored, and sadly, it seems there is little anyone in authority is keen to do about it.
We went here for a little weekend away. We stayed at Steytler cottage - perfect for a couple. Definitely worth staying the night as the sunset was incredible, and the stars were shining brightly The park was beautiful and we made our way to the beach for a few hours. So much space with so few people around - perfect...
