The 15th century stone built Capriana Monastery houses a number of buildings dating from different eras. It is one of the oldest venerable places in Moldova and is located in the scenic woodlands. In around 1429, the monastery was acknowledged as the Royal Monastery by Alexander The Good. The Capriana Monastery has gone through years of decay and from around 1542 to 1545, was renovated at the behest of Petru Rares. You will see three churches at the monastery complex namely the Church Of The Dominion, The Winter Church of St George and the 19th-century church of St Nicholas. The Church of the Dominion is the oldest and is a stone summer church. The tomb of the Metropolitan Gavril Banulescu-Bodoni is located at the Church of Dormition.
