This is a very odd mix of attractions but there is an overarching historical and military aesthetic. The bastion of Saint Catherine here, completed in 1625 and then rebuilt in the 18th century, makes for one of the nicest stretches of walks along the walls of Cartagena. Inside the Baluarte de Santa Catalina you will find the Fortifications Museum, opened in 1994. Today the rest of the bastion facility is used for events and exhibitions and occasionally even concerts. Unfortunately, this majestic structure is not nearly as well maintained or promoted as the other historical attractions off the city. On the upside that means when you come here the entire facility tends to be deserted.

• April - August: Monday to Sunday 11:00am to 8:30pm
