On your way to Bocagrande from Cartagena, keep a look out to the right for this small monument statue. It’s of an African woman bearing a basket of fruit on her head. Donated to the city by the Paz by Colombi, it represents the palenqueras of Cartagena, who are brightly dresses fruit peddlers found in the city. As a group they represent joyous living, and the hardworking spirit of the people of the city. Find the name of the sculptor at the foot of the statue. It’s actually a great place to stop and take pictures, with sweeping views of the Caribbean Sea and the skyline of Bocagrande. If you happen to be on foot, there are benches for you to rest on.
