Peak Cavern, Castleton Reviews

  • The tour was well priced and informative. The cave itself certainly commands attention, offering opportunities to take some interesting photos. The guide was open to a variety of questions and more than well-equipped to answer them; he had knowledge to spare! Although I thoroughly enjoyed my experienced in Peak Cavern, it doesn't strike me as the sort of tour I'd feel inclined to take part in more than once every few years. I'd certainly encourage going for two tours at least: one in the winter, one in the summer.

  • The cave itself was a fantastic experience with a wide variety of areas ranging from very small walkways to massive cavernous areas. The tour guide was very informative (I think he said he was called Neil) who also made the tour interesting and funny. On the way out we ended up chatting with the tour guide that ended up seeming like a private tour, which was an added bonus as it seems like a completely different cave due to the sudden silence. Would recommend to anyone, but wrap up a bit as the whole cave is a constant 9°c all year round.

  • It was a rainy day so we decided to head to the devil's arse. The ticket kiosk bloke was rude and a little sexist towards one of our group and seemed quite grumpy, possibly just having a bad day. The price was expensive for what it is, which is a barren set of caves with very little to see. The guide was very knowledgeable and a good guide. The first 15 minutes of the tour is how to make ropes which was alright but because I've seen it a few times in the area and it was busy because of the rain and loud kids it could have been removed. Because there isn't much to see I would advice being near the guide, although I would say you do end up feeling disappointed because he talks of other caves near such as titan which apparently is only 40 meters through a wall which could easily fit Saint Paul's cathedral in, you initially think great can we view inside it? Nope. Like the rest of the tour of course you never see the fun stuff. Although at almost £12 a ticket and hundreds of people visiting a day they should be able to afford to open it up and make accessable the interesting bits. Also all the signs and information boards need to be updated as they are very faded

  • Great guided tour of a working blue john mine. Lots of interesting information on the rock, history and how its mined but not one for decorated cave. Would recommend a visit for the information

  • Interesting cavern found in the beautiful area of Hope Valley. The tour lasts approximately 50 minutes and is very informative, however the viewable area in the cavern is quite small. Maybe the other nearby caverns would have more to see for the money.
