Kawasan Falls - Review

Just 130 kilometers southwest of Cebu City and about three hours bus ride, the Kawasan Falls is located inside the mountains of Barangay Matutinao, Badian. Silver cascades of waters drop down into gorgeous freshwater pools that beckon visitors to swim and explore the surroundings further. There are two main waterfalls and they are known for their turquoise blue water basins. If you can trek a bit to the second tier of the falls, you will find yourself away from the crowds of tourists and in true company of nature. You can even rent bamboo rafts that take you right under the waterfall.

  • Beautiful coloured water, great for a swim, nice and refreshing. We went early to miss the crowds. Wasn't many people there at 7am when we were there. Keep walking up the stairs and there is lots more to see and more swimming up the top but the first one is the most amazing.

  • The main falls are amazing and great to swim in. We had a great day here. After some hard haggling we got a table for 250 (normally 300). Everything is quite expensive especially the guides that wanted 300 just to come with me for one jump. In the end I wandered up myself and just jumped for free, no helmet or vest. As long as you can swim it's totally fine and safe. Do it!

  • One of the best local tours we took. If you're a group of 6 and up, rent a van from Cebu City. The van cost about 5k for a whole day for a back and forth journey. Local guides are so helpful and even know how to take your photos and videos. The jumps are enjoyable but scary and is not for the faint of heart.

  • The falls are really nice, the water refreshing. Entrance is very reasonable, but there are hidden Costs. The first, is 50 peso for life vest if you want to swim under the falls, which is doable but not mentioned. Still safety is paramount. But 500 peso if you want to use a table. And dont ask for a receipt, you wont get one. This is ridiculous, but if you want a little comfort, you have no choice. If I had to it over, I'd go during the week. Weekend are very crowded, but most of the family works so went Sunday. It is about a kilometer give or take if your lucky to park by the church. So prepare for a little walk. Beside the 500 peso hijack fees for tables, I'd go back. So I'll look to take the family somewhere else in the Philippines.
