Besides being the location of Cebu’s airport, Mactan is a paradise in its own right. Beautiful corals and inviting waters beckon tourists and locals alike. The island offers excellent opportunities to dive and snorkel. The aquarium at the island is quite famous too. The Mactan island is also where the Lapu Lapu monument is located. The monument is in honour of the eponymous local hero who fought Ferdinand Magellan in 1521.

Mactan Reviews & Ratings

  • A beautiful airport and city especially the views during take off. The airport was clean. However, service and logistics could definitely further improve in order for a better traveler experience. We were dropped off at terminal 1 by accident for an international flight. Before we entered the terminal, there was a concierge booth manned by a woman. We approached to confirm whether this is the correct terminal for our airline. She barely acknowledged us and just nodded. We were informed at passport check that we should be at terminal 2 instead and was directed there. Frustrating experience indeed. In order to enter terminal 2, you have to present a ticket or verification of your flight. However, there is no way to check in for your flight until you enter the terminal since this is where the check in counter is located. Kind of a catch 22 situation. This extra step seems unnecessary in my opinion and could cause frustration for travelers (especially if you have no access to print out a ticket beforehand or mobile data to pull up travel info). Also, there is a terminal fee you must pay as well (850 pesos) that I was not aware of until check in. There are several restaurants in the airport as well very overpriced last minute "duty free" souvenir shops. Many souvenirs were way cheaper if you purchased outside the airport even if you include VAT!

  • The new Terminal 2 is really beautiful, spacious and clean and I must say, much better than Manila's NAIA terminal. I would have given 5 stars but the 850 Pesos terminal fee is not yet included in the plane tickets so we have to pay it separately once you are inside. If you are a foreign tourist, make sure to save 850 pesos in cash for the fee - since they don't accept cards for payment. Inconvenient.

  • Beautiful airport, but lots of improvements needed. Such as the Terminal fee--one of the few airports left in the world that require terminal fee payment. This is fine but most travelers are not aware of this. Credit card payment often breaks down as well. Food there includes Bonchon, Starbucks and Burger King at highly inflated rates.

  • Nice new airport could be one of those you recommend, if Filipinos do it right. There is so many things that you will hate. First of all you have to pay 850 php just to get in. For what? I never saw something like this before... Only cash or Visa card possibility is definitely not helping either. And that's just start... Restaurants and bars (even Burger King) are so overpriced. And some of them out of food (Sunday especially). Awful smoking room. Speakers so loud.... If you can fly out from somewhere else, do it.

  • The airport is filled up with overflowing travelers and this is really augurs well for Philippine tourism. Perhaps putting up another bigger terminal would be good for all. There are not enough seats for passengers, dining area is crowded especially during meal time, toilet facilities should be expanded.
