The Marian Shrine stands in the hilly area of upper Lindogon in barangay Simala, Sibonga town. It was built by the congregation of Marian Monks in 1998 when the image, brought here from Pampanga, rumoured to show miracles during the height of an epidemic that killed many people in that community. Aside from its striking castle like structure, local folks and the monks of Simala Church claim that several unexplainable miracles have been witnessed around the crying of the statue of Virgin Mary. As fascinating as the legend surrounding it is the architecture of the building that is both imposing and strikingly beautiful.

  • It is a beautiful, castle like, church. Was there on a Sunday and had a waiting queue of two hours. So take your time, relax and enjoy the beautiful architecture. You can go there from Cebu city by bus, but I was with a taxi. Just a nice day trip. The good thing of a taxi is that you can stop where and when you like.

  • The comfort room charges too high. I hope they will also consider those pilgrims who are not financially able. There must be a process/procedure of how.pilgrims leave their footwears. The atmosphere is kinda mixed of reactions.. Some just wanted to be there for picture taking bit I commend the devotees' observance of faith.

  • Nice place to visit and very serene environment. There are security guards at the entrance gate screening guests as you are required to wear below the knee short/skirt. But if you are wearing above the knee length short/skirt, you can cover it with scarf or malong--just what I did😉. No entrance fee is required.

  • Everyone believes that this is a very miraculous place, no matter how large the crowd is, how hot is the weather every sacrifice just to be able to see and touch the original image of Mama Mary. Inside the church you can see too many touching testimonials from everyone who experienced the miracle. You can see they offer back their uniforms, School Ids, Visa copy, wheelchairs and some more which inspires whoever read it. Proper dress code and silence inside the church is required. If you forget to wear proper clothes there are some for rent longs skirts and shawl outside the church if your don't mind the hygiene. Toilet fees is so expensive, not affordable to all pilgrims and not that clean. Outside the church perimeter there are a lot of food stalls selling local food and delicacies, souvenirs, holy oil and etc. But 70% of the pilgrims brings their own food and rent cottages outside the Church. There are also locals who offer umbrella for rent.

  • Been to this place many times and its always a struggle on what to capture that is different from the previous visit. If this complex is built symmetrically, this would have been more amazing. Overall, the place is a center for worship and prayer of people not only from Cebu but from other places as well.
