The Hidee Gold Mine is a former gold mine in Gilpin County, Colorado, United States. It is one of the tourist attractions in and near the town as a result of the efforts of the local residents, and the Hidee Gold Mine company which worked to recreate the history of mining near Black Hawk, Colorado. There are tours of the mine, which explain the methods that were used both in the past as well as the present. Also during these tours, tourists are given a feel of being a miner, by including a stop at a gold ore vein where tourists use a single-jack (one-handed) hammer and chisel (provided) to chip a gold ore sample loose, which they are allowed to keep as a souvenir.

  • This was an incredible experience. The guide was knowledgeable and passionate and answered all our questions. He shared the history of the mine, how they mined in centuries past vs. how it's done today. We actually mined the gold with a pick and small sledge hammer and were able to take a small treasure home! We were shown how to pan for gold as well, which is much harder than it looks! Contrary to one review, we were able to pay with credit card without any problem. The cost was well worth the experience! Thanks for an INCREDIBLE experience!

  • My wife and I enjoyed this tour very much. Sounds like they plan on expanding in the future. We plan to check back in a couple of years to see if there is more to see.

  • I had never been to a mine before but it was really cool and educational. They let you chip off pieces of the walls to take home as souvenirs, which was fun even if I wasn't very good at it. Our guide was great and very knowledgeable. Make sure to bring something warm to wear. It gets cold underground.

  • Super family friendly! About an hour easy walk into the mine and at the end of the walk you get to chip a piece off the wall. We had 5 years to 65 years and all had a great time. Would definitely recommend the extra $5 a person to pan for gold at the end. All of us found some great little bits and had fun.

  • Very good. I would suggest reservations but we walked in and had 2 spots left. You get to chisel your own gold out of a gold vein and keep it. Staff is knowledgeable in all things mining and we're friendly and helpful.
