Located in the capital town of Montenegro, Cetinje Monastery is actually a Serbian Orthodox Church monastery constructed between 1701 and 704. The location of this monastery previously was home to the former court of Ivan Crnojevic which was established in the year 1485. Though little remains of the original majestic structure, the elegance and beauty has not faded. The picturesque location and tranquil environment make this place a perfect location for prayer and meditation. In addition to this, the interior of this place is designed tastefully and offers the perfect ambiance for contemplation.

  • Beautiful stone-built Orthodox monastery, hosting the relics (right hand) of John the Baptiser. It is located in an area surrounded by trees and quietness. I had the chance to attend the religious service in the small chapel, it was a nice experience.

  • One of the most important places in Montenegrin history. It would be good to come here in a proper clothes, but even if you have visible shoulders or knees they will give you something to cover that. Entrance is free

  • For those who are really into such places. One of the most popular monasteries in Montenegro. There are some important relics of Orthodox Church in there. Worth to visit!

  • Cetinje is a beautiful tranquil city and the monastery surrounded by greenery and forest is soo peaceful..one of my favorite places in Momtenegro

  • Architecturally speaking the Monastery of Sveti Petar Cetinjski is not a show. But its historical significance must not be forgotten: it was built in 1701 by the Metropolitan (Prince-Bishop of Montenegro) Vladika Danilo Petrovic, founder of the Petrovic dynasty and the winner of the de facto independence from Turkish sovereignty. The Monastery was instrumental for the development of education: The first elementary and high school in Montenegro operated here. The Cetinje monastery also served as a family mausoleum for the Petrovic dynasty: Buried there are Prince Danilo Petrovic (now in Eagles rock (Orlov Krš)) with his wife Darinka and many others. The entrance is free, nice and welcoming people.
