Yuelu Academy is one of the four most prestigious academic centres in the whole of China. It is located towards the east of the Yuelu Mountain, a mere 13 kilometres from the city of Changsha. The academy was built in the year 976, during the reign of the Song dynasty. The academy is symbolic to the evolution of higher education in Mainland China. Since it is situated in the Yuelu Mountains it is surrounded by breathtaking scenery. This place is extremely peaceful, even quieter than the rest of the mountain. The grounds are green and a great place to relax after a tiring walk in the mountains.Highlights include:
