Located in the Battle Park, this is an outdoor drama theatre applauded for its array of performances. The first performance was held in 1916 to commemorate the 300th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death.

The site for the forest theatre was picked by William Coker, who also developed the Coker Arboretum. The forest theatre hosts performances in the warmer months and it is also the site for Paperhand Puppet Intervention Festival.

Woodland trails into the 93 acre Battle Park start here.

Forest Theatre Reviews & Ratings

  • Gorgeous outdoor venue with ample seating. The stone steps provided great views from any point, but bringing a blanket or mat to sit on is recommended. It's tucked away from shops so bringing a water bottle is also a good idea if going in the summer months.

  • I love Paper Hand Puppets! Larger than life with wonderful well thought out messages to make us aware. Fun for allagrs. The outdoor Forest Theater is rough but offers good views of the stage. Bring your own chairs, blankets, and picnic. Be sure to come early to find parking. The streets are clogged but there is a parking lot if you know where to look. Google Maps may take you to it. Even in hot weather there are cool breezes innthe evening.

  • Such a cute venue. I come here every year for paperhand puppet intervention... I would much rather see a show here than any of the other venues they go to... this one just feels like home.

  • Magical!!! Whether you are visiting because you’re curiously wandering the stage or visiting for a performance like those by Paperhand Puppets, you’re sure to be captivated. Bring something soft for your bum if you’re there for a show. Snacks are always a great idea! Prepare to have a difficult time parking, though!

  • If you have a chance to visit this theatre, visit it! This year we went there for incredible, spectacular Paperhand Puppet Intervention show "We are here".
