This is the mother church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Charleston. The church was built on the foundation ruins of the 19th century original church named Cathedral of St. Johns and Saint Finbar. This church got devastated in a major fire tragedy and in that place came up the present building. This building according to historical sources has withstood many a natural calamities.
The domes and spires that were added later on to this cathedral make the most attractive portions of it. As you enter the church, a magical zeal will pass through you as if the divine force wants to purify your body, mind and soul. A little time in here can give you a lot of peace of mind and positive energy to get along in life. You will feel that many an unsaid question is getting answered in the house of The Lord.
Apart from the abstract freshness to the very different Gothic Revival kind of architecture, as we can see are the lovely frescoes and walls and ceilings that are a proof of this being a fine example of 19th century design and architecture. The colorful painted windows are remarkably beautiful and the high ceilings with floral dimensions are break from the monotony of cathedral designs that we mostly see. The maintenance and cleanliness part is well appreciated and if your timing is correct you can also have the opportunity to attend a function in here.

Cathedral Of Saint John The Baptist Reviews & Ratings
The Cathedral is a magnificent church. The interior's stained glass windows, the stone floors and the beautiful pews and wood work mark this gem as a must see in Charleston. Upon entering the sense of peace is immediate and you may feel the presence of God. It is one of the most lovely churches in Charleston. Also visit the Diocese chapel on Orange Grove Road in West Ashley.
Went to mass several years ago. It was very beautiful service. The choir was awesome. The only thing is that we had to park a couple of blocks away and walk. We walked past yesterday but didn't have time to go inside. It's a very beautiful church.
This is a really beautiful cathedral in a area of Charleston that isn't really near anything else. To be honest, it was really nice to go in for some air conditioning after having walked outside in the heat for a long time. Air conditioning aside, the inside is beautiful... They are also planning a renovation to make the decor closer to what it used to look like. Now, everything has been painted white. There is a section where you can see what it will all look like when completed. I wouldn't necessarily go out of your way to see it, but it's in a beautiful area with lots of other things to see and would be worth stopping in.
The Mass with choir is amazing. It is very warm and welcoming to parishioners, visitors, and tourists. Be sure to take the tour for the history lesson.
Absolutely fabulous! Beautiful interior and during my visit the organist was playing which added to the ambiance.
