This beautiful lighthouse is situated on the very small island of Morri’s on the southern entrance of Charleston Harbor just beside the small city of Folly Beach. The island is so small that the lighthouse seems to be coming out from under the water only. The reason why it has now become a tourist attraction is the fact that it survives even after being so much away from the shore.
It was initially built by the colonial forces as a watchtower for ships and vessels of the enemies coming in or to keep a watch on the trade coming in via ships. Later on the federal government of the state issued a notice to close down this and there started a revolt where the owners filed a report of encroachment. This went on for quite a long time and later forced them to leave the island itself. But even now the lighthouse is well maintained and acts as a watchtower. The only difference is that it serves as a platform that gives way to a spectacular view of the water and surroundings to the visitors.

Morri's Island Lighthouse Reviews & Ratings
Great spot! Quite and very preserved. Love this nice nature expedition! Great place for peace and quiet and taking pictures. The lighthouse is far but neat to see! Would be fun to take the kayak out!
It is so pretty. I love the look of it. There was no sand bar around it. We got so close to it. Could even read the sign on building.
We kayak this light house from the landing where the bridge and boat ramp is. I can say its not recommended. Took us 3 hours to reach the island and theres no sign or anything except we depend on our phone. Worst part coming back is you paddle against the water. Low tide and murky. I suggest is to launch your kayak right side before the park and paddle until you pass the break. The park is a long haul if you carry the kayak. Next time we will do this route than start from the landing.
So very much worth the walk. Take binoculars. Great little spot
Morris Island Lighthouse was lovely to see standing tall from rhe shores of beautiful Folly Beach, SC. Just head into Folly Beach and turn left at the only red light. At the end of the road you can view the lighthouse by entering the Lighthouse Inlet Heritage Preserve or via the Beach Access and walk left along the shoreline. We walked on the shore because we had our dog Tango with us and pets are not allowed in the Preserve. It was a short walk with amazing views of the ocean and undistupted dunes. From the ocean shore, you turn the corner and there stands the splendid lighthouse to the enterance to Charleston harbor. You can also see the Ravanel Bridge in the distance. Great photo opportunity so don't forget your camera. I suggest making it a beach day and enjoy Folly at it's finest!
