This house is one of the oldest houses of the city. It was once owned by a renowned furniture craftsman of the city called Thomas Elfe from where the house gotten its name. In the 20th century, the house was damaged in an earthquake and so it had to be repaired from its initial structure.

The original house was made of wood and the two storey building along with its backyard counterpart that was a workshop was designed by Thomas Elfe himself. It was later at the time of restoration that the thick beams were added to the brick structure to give it strength. The house is now owned by some other American family.
