Michael Shaps undoubtedly is one of the most known names in the wine making industry, at least in the country. They are known for their innovative and tricky wine making techniques providing the country with the very first modern Virginia wine industry. The place in its entirety is divided into two parts- Michael Shaps Wine works and Wine work extended. Virginia Wine works was established by Michael Shaps who got into wine making in his early 90s and has been enhancing the industry since then. Visitors to the winery get to taste a variety of high quality wines in a tasting room nestled in a pretty surrounding. The entire ambience of the place is light and goes well with the feel of the session. Come with friends and family and enjoy a lovely time overlooking the greens and sipping from your favourite glass of red.

  • We had the best experience here - Bill offered so much knowledge and insight into the wines, and gave us great information behind the different French wines they also make! Mr. Shaps is behind a lot of Virginia’s delicious wines, and that holds true for these at his tasting room as well. We look forward to enjoying the wine we brought home and look forward to returning soon!

  • This was the best tasting of the weekend. Staff are extremely knowledgeable about the process and what exactly is going on in the winery now. The wi e is top notch as well

  • Small tasting room but very nice and inviting. The wines were fantastic and the staff was super helpful. Definitely should be on everyone's wine tasting list for the region!

  • Staff are knowledgeable. Didn't feel rushed. Tasting room very inviting. These are some of the best wines in the area and reasonably priced. Off the beaten path but well worth the trip.

  • Dani did the wine tasting of wines by Maison Shaps from Meursault France - 1 white, 2 reds. Dan did the tastings from Michael Shaps from Virgina - 3 whites, 3 reds. This was a small tasting room with no view. Dan found the wines unique, unusual in blend; worthwhile to taste, yet not our palate for purchase. There is a small area for enjoying a glass outside with a little view of the vineyard.
