Museum Fur Naturkunde Chemnitz - Review

Museum fur Naturkunde Chemnitz, or the Museum of Natural History, is a museum in Chemnitz that displays many exhibits telling stories of the evolution of mankind and other animal, bird and plant species. The museum houses more than 300000 exhibits along with a historic cabinet, the insectarium and rotating exhibitions. Also located here is the Petrified Forest, the largest plant fossil in Europe. The history of the museum dates back to the mid-nineteenth century when the Natural Science Society was formed. The main aim of this group was to study and collaborate in natural sciences and natural history. In the year 2017, tropical insect ctenolepisma calva was first discovered here and was named the Ghost Fish. The museum has many programs for children, youth and adult apart from many guided tours.

Museum Fur Naturkunde Chemnitz, Chemnitz Reviews

  • Came here with my class of 20. They are all migrant kids who speak German as a second language, and many of them have behavioural difficulties - they are not always the easiest group to handle. Our tour guide, Stefan, did an excellent job. He kept them constantly engaged, and they learned a lot. The activities we did together were entertaining and we all really enjoyed our day. The tour was extremely well organized and perfect for their age group (10-13). Thank you for the lovely afternoon!
