One of the main railway hubs in the South of India, the Chennai Central Railway station is the main railway terminus in the city. It is a beautiful station with a royal, Victorian architecture. The striking red colour, with construction dating back to 142 years, you have got to visit this much awe-inspiring building! Add in all the hustle bustle of a railway station, and you have one Chennai attraction that is absolutely unique, along with being mesmeric. To get to and fro from the Chennai attraction, beware of tourist traps, especially with the taxi and rickshaw drivers standing right outside the station.

Chennai Central, Chennai Reviews - Write a Review
It is very very crowded. The waiting rooms are spacious and maintained but the restrooms are not hygienic. There are departure timings in the waiting rooms as well. Chennai central station can be reached from the airport by availing a local train. There are a number of food stalls inside the station itself. South Indian food, fruits, comics, magazines etc are available.
For those travelers who would like to explore how Indian railways work, Chennai railway station is an ideal one to check out. The station is housed in a British era building. Despite the crowd is well maintained and is clean. In case if some one just wants to check out the place do buy a platform ticket to visit as in India without platform tickets one can't enter the railway station. There is no need to buy the platform tickets if one is traveling by a train starting from there..
The station is always crowded. They have a large waiting hall with seats for commuters. The information board is also big enough to show information about the upcoming 10 trains. They have close to 10 platforms. Most of the trains starting from here go towards the western or northern parts of India. They do have a paid parking space. They reservation counter is adjusant to the station. There are a lot of reservation counters, as many people use this station for long distance destinations. You can reach Central station via electric train. The Chennai Park station is opposite to the Central station. The Central Station is completely wheelchair friendly. They do have ramps at the entrances.
wish to appreciate all the people responsible to keep the Chennai Central Rly Station in such a Nice condition. Hats off to the entire staff team for the Good work being rendered. God Bless You All.
Very poor maintenance and amenities for one of the oldest and busiest Railway stations in India. Not even one 24hr restaurant where you can sit and have good food. All the floors are very slippery when wet. Few very good private restaurant chains which were functioning inside the station were also closed. Bangalore , Hyderabad and Vijayawada stations light years ahead. Even much smaller stations like Aurangabad have a good 24 hour restaurant and far superior services. Very sad and disheartening.
