Spencer Plaza - Review

Chennai does not cease to entertain you with an exhaustive list of shopping malls, the Spencer Plaza is another such mall perched on the Anna Salai street. Apart from being a fabulous entertainment opportunity, this mall is also considered as one of the modern landmarks of the city. Interestingly, the mall is a creation of the British Raj period when the same grounds were home to the original Spencer's departmental store. The store was later renovated to being a mall in given times. Thus, it also boasts of the title of being “he oldest shopping mall in India”. You will find a large assortment of electronics, kids and men’s apparels among other items.

Spencer Plaza, Chennai Reviews

  • Very old mall of the golden bygone era. Still good enough if u live shopping in small stores where u like to bargain...need to improve a lot to compete especially bringing anchor stores and good amount of food outlets. One of the best parking you would see especially when u know it was built in an era where cars were luxury

  • My friends and I like going here. It's quite the gold mine, like my friends and I call it. Good stuff for good price. It's not like EA. But it's definitely not bad. Just remember to compare and bargain if you think the price is high. Also, there's a cheap parking lot just around the corner.

  • It was one of the best shopping malls in Chennai a few years back. But now there is closure of many shops. There is only a few good shops left there. Some good shops remain there and still it's a good place to shop. But it's just 30 percent of what it was before.

  • You get all mobile accessories and dresses at cheap cost. Quality is based on the time u spend to find the best one. Very few places to buy toys for kids. No exclusive food court dining place which almost all the shopping malls have now.

  • In India's first big mall.... It's really build new technology... Fire and safety is good technical.... There's a lot of clothes, with a bazaar feeling.. The structure of Spencer plaza is designed like a maze.... U can't able to find way out in a time.... It's difficult for a regular visitor to find it out. It always was a bit like a street market in a building. Now even more so. Add mobile phones etc etc.
