The fort of L’lle Pelee is a military structure of the English channel of Querqueville, a part of the town of Cherbourg. The construction work for the fort began in 1779 on the site of a former small fort at the Peleeisland and was completed in 1784. The fort had three casemated batteries, which could accommodate 108 guns of large calibre, including 14 mortars and 84 pieces of, cannon firing lashing. The fort is now accessible from the tiny harbour in the front. Still owned by the Navy, it forbidden to enter it without permission of the navy. A concrete ramp at the front leads to imposing main entrance of the fort; here you get to see the proper rounded structure of the fort in order to have a better defence and attack mechanism.
