About Nongsawlia, Cherrapunji
Nongsawlia is located at a distance of about 2 km from south of Sohra, is one of the most visited sites by tourists. The place is visited by a large number of tourists from all around the world owing to the presence of great works by Welsh Missionaries here. In 1942, the place was first visited by Welsh missionaries, worked to improve the life of people residing here. In addition, it is the very same place where Thomas Jones, a missionary, introduced the Khasi Alphabet, which ultimately led to the conception of Khasi literature. As a result of this introduction, the Sohra dialect was used as the lingua-franca of the Khasis, which later spread to all other parts of hills. There is also a Welsh Presbyterian Church here that pulls a lot of visitors here.
