Happy Elephant Home, Chiang Mai Reviews
We visited the Save Thai Elephants park last week. This was the smaller Camp compared to the larger, main Camp across the river. It was an unbelievable, humbling experience to get up close and personal with these amazing creatures!!! (In the larger Camp, you do not get to go near the elephants). You take part in preparing the elephant's food, feeding them, going on a walk with them to the river, where you can help bathe the elephants. You are treated to a delicious vegetarian buffet for lunch, overlooking the beautiful scenery and then watch the elephants take in an afternoon mud bath! The staff looking after the elephants are such dedicated, caring individuals, they do so much to support the elephants. Some of the animals have been saved from abuse or have serious health issues and it is truly amazing how they now have a safe and comfortable environment for them to thrive. It was super hot when we were there, so be prepared with sunscreen, a hat, clothes and shoes that you don't mind getting wet while in the river. This is an absolute must for anyone visiting Chiang Mai!!!
We had the best time with the elephants. Staff were very professional and all the elephants looked very healthy. We got to feed them. Walked them to the river. Fed them some more as we were walking to the river and then we bathed them. Noodle soup for lunch was very yummy too. And there is option for vegetarians. I would recommend Happy Elephant Home for sure.
We had the BEST time at Happy Elephant Home!!! We did the full day and 1/2 day tours...both were AMAZING EXPERIENCES!!!! The elephants are very well taken care of!!!! We got to feed and swim with the elephants!!! It was awesome!!! The lunch provided was very good;) After our fabulous time our driver got us back to the hotel safely.
We had a phenomenol time at this elephant rescue. Everyone was kind to us and most importantly the animals. We fed them bananas and sugar cane, and even went swimming with them in the river during a downpour! We were taught how to cook a traditional meal and were offered as much as we desired. At the end we cooled off in their pool. There was no pushing to buy or donate. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity. If fortunate enough, I would return in a heartbeat.
When researching a place to go this was not at the top of our list. But we ended up here because there was a spot and it exceeded expectations. The staff was super friendly, the group was small so you had plenty of time with the elephants, not a long introduction just got right into interactive with the animals. Clean river, jungly environment, and the food was great. This was also ones of the cheapest places which is a huge plus. Definitely worth a visit
